Zoom VS JioMeet: How To Copy Like A Pro

A substantial spike has been seen in the count of daily users of video calling/conferencing applications due to the Covid-19 pandemic as people are bound to work online from home. Everyone must have used or at least heard about this video calling/conferencing application named Zoom. It has been reported that its daily user count reached the mark of 200 million in March from 10 million last December. However, now, it has a brand-new, made in India, competitor named JioMeet launched by the Reliance Industries. The app is loaded with a lot of similar features. If JioMeet is Copy of Zoom, then Jio’s Team Define How To Copy Like A Pro. Could this be a better alternative to current dominator Zoom? Let’s look around JioMeet vs Zoom.

User Interface

Zoom

The user interface of Zoom is simple and minimalistic. It’s quite easy to use this application. One can sign up by using his/her work email address or sign in with Google, Facebook, and SSO (Single sign-on).

It supports multiple platforms such as Windows, Android, iOS, and Linux. Cross-platform support is also available. The web version provides more controls while in the application, you get all the basic functionalities.

JioMeet

It is easily noticeable that the UI of JioMeet is very similar to Zoom. As Zoom, it is simple and easy to use. One can sign up using his/her mobile number or email address.

It is also available on multiple platforms like Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows with cross-platform support. One can seamlessly switch to JioMeet from Zoom as the UI is similar. Some might say it’s copied from Zoom.

Features

Zoom

Zoom offers HD video and audio service with an active speaker view. One can join a meeting, schedule a meeting, host a meeting, change the virtual background, arrange a personal room or meeting ID, share their screen with others, record the meetings, wait in the waiting room and do many more things.

It provides a feature called Webinars where one can easily conduct large online events with video, audio, and screen sharing for up to 100 video participants and 10,000 attendees. However, this is a paid feature.

JioMeet

On the other hand, JioMeet offers similar features. It also supports HD video and audio calling with an active speaker view. Currently, the video quality is available up to 720p only. Users can join a meeting, schedule a meeting, host a meeting, and share their screen with others. There’s a waiting room available as well like Zoom. JioMeet supports multi-device login up to five devices which enables users to switch seamlessly between the devices while on a call.

Plans

Zoom

Zoom has four models: Basic, Pro, Business, and Enterprise. The basic model is free of cost which offers to host up to 100 participants and it has a limit of 40 minutes.

The Pro model costs $14.99/mo/host and offers all the basic features plus some additional features such as video conferencing for up to 24 hours, user management, admin feature controls, reporting, and many more.

The Business model costs $19.99/mo/host and offers all pro features plus additional features including dedicated phone support, vanity URL (create your customized URL as in yourcompany.zoom.us), up to 300 participants, option for on-premise deployment, single sign-on, custom emails and many more.

Lastly, the Enterprise model is priced $19.99/mo/host which offers all the mentioned features plus unlimited cloud storage, up to 400 participants, dedicated customer success manager, executive business reviews, and bundled discounts on Webinars and Zoom Rooms.

JioMeet

Coming to JioMeet, they offer free unlimited, uninterrupted calls for 23 hours and 45 minutes for up to 100 participants currently. We could expect some similar, probably cheaper, subscription plans in the future with the addition of many features.

Privacy

Zoom

Zoom provides end-to-end encryption to its users regardless of plans. It uses the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit algorithm for encrypting the in-meeting and in-webinar presentation.

JioMeet

The company has announced that all the meetings conducted on this platform are encrypted. However, there are no mentions about end-to-end encryption for this.

Conclusion

Both of these applications are available on multiple platforms and offers some interesting features. Talking about the user interface, it appears that the JioMeet app has bluntly copied the entire design from Zoom. Zoom offers better options/features, though most of the users have to pay. It is to be expected from JioMeet to provide better features and functionalities in the nigh future. JioMeet vs Zoom can be a never-ending comparison process.
