Samsung has finally announced their latest Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra flagship phones in the first half of August month and they will be available for the consumers in the second half of the month. The gap, in terms of design and specifications, of both the flagship series of Samsung S and Note has been decreasing lately. Hence, the users find confusing to go for the Note or S series phone. Design

Samsung is one of the best design makers. In fact, the flagship smartphones of Samsung are the trendsetter. Talking about the design, Note 20 has the dimensions of 161.6 x 75.2 x 8.3 mm and weighs 192gm. It has Gorilla Glass 5 on the front side and plastic back on the rear side. Samsung claims that the plastic material which they have used on the rear side would feel like glass but, in reality, it does not. Plastic is plastic and it doesn’t feel premium as the glass one.

Whereas the S20 plus has 161.9 x 73.7 x 7.8 mm and 186gm of weight. It comes with Gorilla Glass 6 on both sides of the phone and surrounded by aluminum frame on the sides that feels premium as expected from a flagship device.

Display

When it comes to the display department of the smartphone, no one can beat Samsung. Samsung is one of the best display producers out there in the market. Even Apple uses displays manufactured by Samsung. The Note 20 offers 6.7 inches, 60Hz punch hole Super AMOLED Plus panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels (FHD+), and 393 PPI density.

The s20+ offers 6.7 inches, 120Hz punch hole Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels (QHD+), and 563 PPI density. With higher resolution and higher display refresh rate, the S20+ has a major advantage over Note 20. The 120 Hz refresh rate screen is so smooth that the user never wants to go back to the normal 60Hz.

Camera

In the camera section, both of the phones have a similar setup. Both phones are rocking with 12MP main camera, 64MP telephoto camera, and 12MP ultrawide camera on the rear side. The S20+ has an additional depth sensor which helps the phone to take acute portrait pictures. On the front side, both phones have a 10MP selfie camera. Both of them are capable enough to shoot 8K@24fps, 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/240fps, and 720p@960fps with rear cameras and 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30fps with the front camera.

In terms of camera performance, there won’t be much of a difference. However, with the extra depth sensor, S20+ can take better portrait pictures with sharp details.

Performance

Samsung uses two types of the chipset to power its flagships. One is their custom made Exynos chipset and the other is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series. The people from all over the world get Exynos chipset except the US and Canada, they get Snapdragon one. However, this year something changed. They have used Snapdragon chipset in their own country that is South Korea along with the US and Canada. Both of the chipset series have been performing similar but this year we have seen a noticeable difference in the performance. The Snapdragon one is more powerful than their own Exynos one. The Exynos people are mad at Samsung for this.

The S20+ was launched with the Snapdragon 865 and Exynos 990. Due to the performance difference between these two chipsets used in the S20 series, people were expecting some solution from Samsung with the Note 20 series but there was no change in this department. Instead of closing this gap, they introduce Note 20 series with Snapdragon 865+, which is superior to the Snapdragon 865, and Exynos 990. Hence, the performance gap has increased even more.

The Snapdragon version of the Note20 phone would perform slightly better than the S20+ as they have used a new 865+ chipset. Whereas the Exynos chipset users of both the phones wouldn’t feel any difference. Both of the phones offer 8GB of RAM and UFS 3.0 technology. Note 20 has the base storage of 256GB and S20+ has 128GB. There is no extra slot in Note 20 for microSD card to increase the storage whereas S20+ uses the 2nd SIM card slot to fulfill this purpose. Both phones are rocking with Android 10 with One UI 2.1. With the announcement of the Note 20 series, Samsung has promised to offers at least 3 years of software update support on both of their flagship series which is a good thing as the earlier support was for only 2 years.

Battery

The Note 20 comes with a 4300 mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery which would last a day on normal usage. The S20+ offers a 4500 mAh non-removable Li-Po battery which comes in handy to support the 120Hz refresh rate. Both of the phones support fast charging at 25W, fast wireless charging at 15W, and reverse wireless charging at 9W.

To conclude, it is clearly noticeable that the S20+ phone offers more promising features than the latest Note 20. The main thing which sets apart Note series from the S series is the S pen and its usability. If you are considering of buying the Note 20 only for its S pen features to enhance your productivity, you might want to consider their previous flagship Note 10+.
