Design and Display
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a similar design to its predecessor galaxy fold. However, there are some amazing changes in the new device. The smartphone measures 6.2 x 2.6 x 0.66 inches when closed and 6.2 x 5 x 0.27 inches when open. It weighs 282 gm, which is slightly heavier than the previous Fold.
They have included a new Ultra-Thin Glass display to provide a better touchscreen than the previous fold. In addition to that, the sweeper technology-based Hideaway hinge protects the phone from dust and dirt and allows users to position the screen at their desired angle.
Coming to the display segment, the outer display has gotten bigger to 6.2 inches from 4.6 and the bezels are far narrower than the previous fold. The outer AMOLED display features 816 x 2260 pixels resolution and 60Hz refresh rate with a punch-hole selfie camera.
The Z Fold 2 has an immersive 7.6 inches AMOLED display inside which supports 1768 x 2208 pixels resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Moreover, there is no notch inside this beauty. They have removed the notch and installed a punch-hole camera setup, which evidently looks dope.
Camera
In recent years, the camera has become one of the integral features of smartphones. The Z Fold 2 is rocking with a 12MP main wide-angle camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom. However, it’s a bit strange that Samsung has not included their latest 180MP and 5x telephoto zoom camera just like Note20 Ultra in this 1999$ expensive flagship. The device has two more selfie cameras of 10MP, one inside and the other on the front side.
With the folding phone users get new features that elevate the usability. Users can see themselves using the front display whilst someone else is taking the shots, thanks to their Dual Preview feature. With that users can also take higher quality selfies with the rear cameras. Moreover, Flex mode allows users to review the recent pictures on the bottom half screen while using it as a laptop.
They have introduced a new feature called Auto Framing which adjusts the framing according to the subjects. For instance, if a person is already in the frame and another person comes in, then the phone automatically finds the best frame to include both of them while keeping them focused as subjects.
Performance
In terms of performance, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a beast thanks to the latest Snapdragon 865+ chipset and 12GB of RAM with 256GB of UFS3.1 storage. Mind you that it does not have an external micro SD card slot. This smartphone is capable enough to handle whatever the users throw at it and the 120Hz display adds the phenomenal touch of smoothness in user experience.
In earlier Fold, there were some applications issues as the folding technology was new in the market and the developers of applications had to adjust the applications to a new aspect ratio of the phone in order to give the users the best experience. However, with the new Z Fold 2 those issues have been solved up to a great extent. The flex mode gives you an immersive experience of using the phone as a laptop and the multi-tasking is smooth and buttery, thanks to the powerful chipset.
Additionally, the Z Fold 2 features Ultra Wide Band technology with which the users can utilize the Samsung’s Nearby Share features to share the files rapidly with other compatible devices.
Battery
The Z Fold 2 comes with a 4500mAh battery compared to the last fold which was 4380mAh. The efficient Snapdragon 865+ chipset combined with this battery would be enough to get through the day. The smartphone supports 25W fast charging. Moreover, the fast wireless charging and reverse wireless charging are also supported.
Conclusion
Overall, the device is bundled with a lot of amazing features and surely will provide the best user experience out there in the market. However, the price of this device is a bit higher than expected. In other words, a lot more could have been provided with a 1999$ smartphone.
